On-Call¶

CIA Linux and CIA Windows both have on-call rotations tracked through Service Now.

It is the responsibility of the on-call person to restore service in the case of unplanned outages that happen outside of working hours.

Tracking On-Call¶

The on-call schedule is managed in Service Now, however it is up to the person on-call to also fill out their hours in Workday.

The procedure for this is simple and as follows:

1. From your Workday dashboard, select "Time" (Heurs if your interface is set to French)
2. From the "Enter Time" menu, select your week.
3. On the "Enter Time" calendar page, click the drop-down on the orange "Enter Time" button and select "Quick Add"
4. Make sure your "Time Type" is On-Call/Stand-By Premium and the date range is correct. Click the orange "Next" button.
5. Select your days of the week.
6. For business days (Monday to Friday, excluding holidays and Summer Fridays):
   • For your "In", specify 00:00
   • For your "Out", specify 08:00
   • Click "Add"
   • For your "In", specify 16:00
   • For your "Out", specify 24:00
7. For non-business days (Saturday, Sunday, holidays and Summer Fridays):
   • For your "In", specify 00:00
   • For your "Out", specify 08:00
   • Click "Add"
   • For your "In", specify 08:00
   • For your "Out", specify 16:00
   • Click "Add"
   • For your "In", specify 16:00
   • For your "Out", specify 24:00
8. Click OK
9. Verify that your entry is correct, and then click "Submit".

Linux¶

Work Overview¶

The CIA Linux team participates in 3 main types of work:

1. Day-to-day operations. This mostly involves making sure that servers are running properly, getting updated, and not running out of disk space. This can be done pro-actively by responding to warnings from Spong or Insights, or reactively by responding to errors in spong, issues from Service Now or email.
2. Internal CIA projects, such as GitLab/GitLab CI, Satellite, Ansible Tower, or OpenShift
3. ITS projects under the curation of a project manager.
